Carpe Diem

A cherished idiosyncrasy of mine
Is putting back in the atmosphere
What I gain from the universe

Upon doing so
I randomly selected a book excerpt
Entitled

"One Of The Greatest Sins Is the Unlived Life"

A particular sentence
Within said passage
Spoke to me instinctively

It stated:

"If you allow yourself to be the person that you are, then everything will come into rhythm. If you live the life you love, you will receive shelter and blessings. Sometimes the great famine of blessing in and around us derives from the fact that we are not living the life we love, rather we are living the life that is expected of us. We have fallen out of rhythm with the secret signature of our own nature."

~John O'Donohue

The aforementioned
Resonated to my
Soul...

In life
One can become immersed with entities that don't necessarily matter
Losing sight of what's meaningful

Around 4am Tuesday morning
I dislodged  myself from various social outlets
ie: FB, Twitter, Instagram, etc.

And spent time with myself...

Instantaneously
I was besieged
With the Orchestra of my deepest thoughts

DUN - DUN  DUN- DUN
DUNNNNNNNN

A marvelous symphony
I can honestly say
I haven't listened to in quite some time

FB?
 When did you become sociable
Or care how many thumbs up you receive

Twitter?
140 Characters limit to convey your thoughts
Aren't you long winded

Instagram?
Now, you're an armature photographer
Taking pictures of food and your daily activities

*Face palm*

Imposter!
Look at what you've become
And when is the real LaToya returning?

My rebuttal was:

I'm an introvert
It's befitting
To interact with others from a distance...

After uttering my halfhearted answer

I braced  myself for
The tactless, acid tongued, no holds bar
Aspect of my being

Who replied, with a

Side eye*
Negro please
Ain't no future in frontin'!

Needless to say,
Besides the fact of being humbled
I was lying to myself

The past couple of days
Were spent living inside the realm of
Solitude

I read various book excerpts
Knowing one day it would be recited to others
But, for the time being I nurtured myself

I divulged
In my favorite pastime
Allowing pencil to reunite with paper

Rekindling
The beautiful sound of my hand
Gliding across the margins

I looked outside of my window
At the pedestrians and cars riding by
Pondering who are these people & what type of life they live

Thinking to myself
Each and everyone of us, at an unknown date & time
Will cease to exist - Physically

As the essence of who we were
Will forever be engraved on earth
Through our deeds, life and words

And for those who're parents
We'll live on
Through our children

Everyday we awaken
Is an opportunity to leave our imprint
Before exiting life's threshold....

These words
Are a reminder to myself:
Remain balanced

Read, Sing, Dance
Go Outside Sometimes
Please.....

My Slap on your face if need be
To jar you out of this Compu-Coma
You've slipped into

SNAP OUT OF IT!!!!
