Gradually manifested
in the weeks that
followed
Families,
or one or other parent, are often chosen
because they can provide
exactly the right environment
for expectations to
flower.
Part of the lesson was to learn to nurture ourselves.
Well, ______
if you were here to teach me about
abandonment, and rejection, and lack of love, and abuse,
and many other destructive things,
you certainly succeeded.
But I now realize
that I chose you for this purpose
and that by being like that, you also taught me
self-reliance and turned me inward to look for my own nurturing.
